What We Believe
우리가 믿고 있는 것은,
1. We believe the Bible is the inspired and
authoritative word of God. By the Holy Spirit it is the “living and active”
means through which God speaks to the church today, bearing witness to God’s
Son, Jesus, as the divine Logos, or Word of God.
우리는 성경이 하나님의 영감과 권위로 쓰여진 것이라 믿습니다. 성경은
성령님에 의해서 하나님께서 오늘날 교회에게 하나님의 아들이신 예수님은 신성한 말씀이고 하나님의 말씀이라고 증거하는 살아있고 활동성 있는 수단이다.
2. We believe that God also reveals himself in
and through the natural world he created, which displays his glory, eternal
power, and divine nature. Properly interpreted, Scripture and nature are
complementary and faithful witnesses to their common Author.
우리는 하나님께서 창조하신 자연을 통해 하나님 자신을 드러낸다고 믿습니다. 자연은
하나님의 영광과 영원한 능력, 그리고 신성을 나타냅니다. 성경과
자연은 적절한 해석으로 통해 상호 보완적이고 성경 저자들의 신뢰성 있는 증거가 됩니다.
3. We believe that all people have sinned
against God and are in need of salvation.
우리는 모든 삶들이 하나님을 대적하는 죄인이고 구원이 필요한 존재임을 믿습니다.
4. We believe in the historical incarnation of
Jesus Christ as fully God and fully man. We believe in the historical death and
resurrection of Jesus Christ, by which we are saved and reconciled to God.
우리는 예수님께서 온전한 하나님이면서 사람으로 실제로 이 땅에 오셨음을 믿습니다. 우리는 예수님께서 실제로 죽으시고 부활하심과 그로 인해 우리는 구원을 받고 하나님과 화목하게 되었음을 믿습니다.
5. We believe that God is directly involved in
the lives of people today through acts of redemption, personal transformation,
and answers to prayer.
우리는 하나님께서 구원의 행위(acts of redemption), 개인적
변화(personal transformation), 기도의 응답을 통해 인간의 삶 속에 직접적으로 함께
하심을 믿습니다.
6. We believe that God typically sustains the
world using faithful, consistent processes that humans describe as "natural
laws." Yet we also affirm that God works outside of natural law in
supernatural events, including the miracles described in Scripture. In both
natural and supernatural ways, God continues to be directly involved in
creation and in human history.
우리는 하나님께서 일반적으로 사람들이 자연법이라고 이야기하는 신뢰성 있고 일관된 과정을 사용하여 세상을 유지하시고
계심을 믿습니다. 그리고 아직도 하나님께서 성경에 기적으로 나타난 일들을 포함하여 자연법을 넘어선 초자연적인
사건들로 일하고 계심을 확신한다. 하나님께서는 자연과 초자연적인 방법으로 창조물과 인간의 역사에 직접적으로
계속해서 함께 하십니다.
7. We believe that the methods of science are
an important and reliable means to investigate and describe the world God has
made. In this, we stand with a long tradition of Christians for whom Christian
faith and science are mutually hospitable. Therefore, we reject ideologies such
as Materialism and Scientism that claim science is the sole source of knowledge
and truth, that science has debunked God and religion, or that the physical
world constitutes the whole of reality.
우리는 과학적인 방법은 하나님께서 만드신 세상을 설명하고 탐구하는 중요하고 믿을만한 도구임을 믿습니다. 우리는 과학과 믿음이 서로 환영 받는 존재라는 오래된 기독교의 전통과 함께 한다. 그러므로 우리는 과학이 지식과 사실의 유일한 원천이고 과학은 하나님과 종교가 틀렸음을 밝혀 왔으며, 물질계는 전체 실제적인 것으로 구성되어 있다는 유물론과 과학주의 이데올로기를 거부한다.
8. We believe that God created the universe,
the earth, and all life over billions of years. God continues to sustain the
existence and functioning of the natural world, and the cosmos continues to
declare the glory of God. Therefore, we reject ideologies such as Deism that
claim the universe is self-sustaining, that God is no longer active in the
natural world, or that God is not active in human history.
우리는 하나님께서 수십억 년 이상 전에 우주와 지구, 그리고 모든
생명을 창조하셨음을 믿는다. 하나님은 자연계의 모든 존재와 기능을 계속해서 유지하고 계시며, 우주는 하나님의 영광을 계속해서 선포하고 있다. 그리므로 우리는
우주는 자립하며, 하나님은 더 이상 이 자연에서 활동하지 않고, 하나님은
인간 역사에서도 어떤 역할도 하지 않는다고 주장하는 이신론을 거부한다.
9. We believe that the diversity and
interrelation of all life on earth are best explained by the God-ordained
process of evolution with common descent. Thus, evolution is not in opposition
to God, but a means by which God providentially achieves his purposes.
Therefore, we reject ideologies that claim that evolution is a purposeless
process or that evolution replaces God.
우리는 지구 상의 모든 생명체 간의 상호관계와 다양성이 공통 조상에서 하나님께서 정해 놓으신 진화 과정을 통해
잘 설명된다고 믿는다. 이와 같이 진화는 하나님을 대적하는 것이 아니라 하나님의 목적을 하나님의 뜻으로
성취하기 위한 수단이다. 그러므로 우리는 진화는 목적성 없는 과정이거나 진화가 하나님을 대체한다는 이데올로기는
거부한다.
10. We believe that God created humans in
biological continuity with all life on earth, but also as spiritual beings. God
established a unique relationship with humanity by endowing us with his image
and calling us to an elevated position within the created order.
우리는 하나님께서 인간이 지구 상의 모든 생명체와 생물학적 연관성(biological
continuity) 안에서 창조하셨고 영적인 존재임을 믿는다.
11. We believe that conversations among
Christians about controversial issues of science and faith can and must be
conducted with humility, grace, honesty, and compassion as a visible sign of
the Spirit’s presence in Christ’s body, the Church.
우리는 논란이 많은 과학과 믿음에 관한 기독교인 사이의 대화를 교회와 성도 안에 성령님이 있다는 증거로 겸손, 영광, 정직, 동정심을
가지고 할 수 있다고 믿는다.
